Roll on Autumn: Dua Lipa’s London Literature Festival Line-Up celebrates writers, poets, and thinkers from around the globe.

From Wednesday 21st October to Sunday 1st November, the Southbank Centre will continue its 75th birthday celebrations with a programme curated by one of contemporary pop culture’s most iconic figures, @dualipa

In conversation with headliners Patti Smith, Zadie Smith and Mustafa, Dua Lipa will lift the lid on artistic legacy, the healing potential of art and the power of artistic freedom.

With readings, showcases and live music, the wider festival promises to be an open space for public debate and discussion. Human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nadia Murad will share her powerful story of survival and reclamation as she presents her memoir, I Choose My Beginning, while prize-winning novelist, memoirist and filmmaker Xiaolu Guo will deliver the 2026 New Statesman Goldsmiths Prize Lecture on the creation of fiction in the age of artificial intelligence.

Dua Lipa has done a lot for literature. Her @service95bookclub strives to amplify emerging voices and deepen discourse surrounding some of society’s most pressing concerns. Earlier this year, the singer opened a library in Porto, the Manifesto Library: a permanent collection of 100 books housed within the cultural auditorium at @livraria.lello. The collection includes titles tackling themes of Power, Control, Voice and Memory, including literary classics such as Nineteen Eighty-Four, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Satanic Verses and The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday 5th August.

The Frozen People by Brighton-based author Elly Griffiths, the first book in a new series with a time-travelling spin, as an unsolved mystery takes cold cases investigator Ali Dawson back to the frozen Victorian London of January 1850.

Elly Griffiths has been shortlisted for the Award eight times and was Highly Commended in 2023 for The Locked Room. She is the author of the Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries; the Brighton Mysteries and the Detective Harbinder Kaur series.

Frances Crawford from Glasgow won the McDermid Debut Award for her crime novel, A Bad, Bad Place, a gritty and atmospheric thriller set in 1970s Glasgow.

Playwright Mel Pennant was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ for A Murder for Miss Hortense, a mystery novel featuring a formidable retired nurse turned amateur detective, whose sharp eyes and
sharper wit uncover truths buried deep within her quiet Birmingham suburban community.

Bestselling US novelist, David Baldacci, received the Theakston Old Peculier Outstanding Contribution Award in recognition for his exceptional contribution to the crime thriller genre.

The winners were revealed on the opening night of the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, at an event hosted by broadcaster Steph McGovern

Positioned pride of place in the Duomo district’s fabulous @lagemma_firenze, Luca’s restaurant delivers chic, contemporary interiors whose decidedly green palette has echoes of a Hopper painting.

Ambience at @lucasrestaurant_firenze is kept fresh with an unimposing soundtrack featuring soft house in the vein of St Germain and Gotan Project’s electronic tango in keeping with head chef Paulo Airaudo’s Italian-Argentinian roots.

Airaudo’s menu celebrates the integrity of local Tuscan ingredients whilst elevating them to an international culinary stage. Having worked in kitchens in Geneva, London, Columbia and Hong Kong, there’s a playful edge to Airaudo’s fusion dishes.

As with all exceptional Italian meals, proceedings began with glass of chilled Derbusco Cives Franciacorta, whose lemon posset notes chimed in with the welcome consommé.

Two whimsical courses followed. The mini ice-cream cones with salmon mousse and pistachio were over too soon, but any childish disappointment was soon replaced with pure delight at the sight of tuna tartare served with caviar and gold leaf.
